Everything from the "reserved" signs to the billiard table felt to the models' Chinese-style dresses bore the same label: "bodog.com."

The only thing missing was the online gambling site's flamboyant founder, 45-year-old Canadian Calvin Ayre.
"He'd have girls all around him and he'd be the life of the party," said Ronn Torossian, a publicist and acquaintance familiar with Ayre's celebrating ways.
The billionaire who graced Forbes magazine's March cover decided to make himself scarce after federal authorities arrested David Carruthers, the head of rival Web gambling operator BetOnSports PLC, on July 16.
A federal judge ordered BetOnSports to stop accepting bets placed from the U.S., and prosecutors are seeking the forfeiture of $4.5 billion, plus several cars, recreational vehicles and computers from Carruthers and 10 other people associated with the Costa Rica-based gambling operation.
Around the same time, the U.S. House passed a bill that would ban most Internet gambling. Though the bill's future in the Senate is uncertain, the issue loomed over the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas: Is online poker legal?
Tournament organizers and the U.S. Justice Department say no. The players, thousands of whom qualified in cash-paying Internet tournaments, say yes.
"I've got no certainty whatsoever," said Ayre, speaking by phone from Canada, days after Carruthers' arrest.
"I don't believe any senior executive of any online gaming company is going to be going into the United States for the foreseeable future," Ayre said. "It's not just me, and I've talked to a lot of them."

Online gaming sprouts up
The World Series of Poker's uncomfortable relationship with online gambling emerged in 2003, when an unknown accountant named Chris Moneymaker qualified through a $40 online tournament and went on to win the $2.5 million main event, becoming the poster child for the wild popularity of online poker.
Advertising by poker sites on mainstream television exploded -- and then the Justice Department intervened.
In a June 11, 2003, letter, Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Malcolm warned the National Association of Broadcasters that the department considered Internet gambling illegal. "Any person or entity who aids or abets" online betting "is punishable as a principal violator," he wrote.
Major networks reacted by forcing online poker companies to create "dot-net" sites, on which poker was played only for fake money and no reference or link would be made to the "dot-com" versions, where billions of very real dollars are wagered every year.
Thus, PartyPoker.net, the so-called "World's Largest Poker School," has become an official sponsor of the World Series of Poker, its logo visible every time a flop hits the felt. PartyPoker.com, the moneymaking reason for its existence, lurks in the shadows.

Online roots entrenched
By some counts, about half of the 8,700 players in the World Series' main event qualified through online satellite tournaments. PokerStars.com boasted more than 1,600 qualified on its satellites. PartyPoker.com is reported to have sent more than 800 qualifiers and bodog.com says it sent some 700.
But tournament commissioner Jeffrey Pollack insisted that an online tournament isn't what puts a player into the World Series -- it's the $10,000 cash he individually pays for a seat at the table.
"I don't talk to the dot-coms, I don't," he said. "Online gaming is illegal. Everything we do, whether it's selling hospitality at the Rio (the hotel-casino hosting the World Series) or selling product placement with PartyPoker.net on our felt, is done with a sharp eye on the regulatory environment."
The televised tournament's first day was even delayed by several minutes as organizers announced that anyone sporting a "dot-com" poker logo would not be allowed to play. About half that day's field of more than 2,000 players flipped shirts inside-out, and workers circulated with rolls of black tape, covering any "dot-com" symbols they could find.
The House bill that would ban Internet gambling -- except for horse race betting and state lotteries -- is an attempt to close a perceived loophole in the 1961 Wire Act, one of a series of laws meant to crack down on racketeering.
Similar legislation failed in the House in 2000, but many blame that on the efforts of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who is accused of spending lavishly to get the bill killed on behalf of an online lottery company.
The Wire Act explicitly forbids businesses from using a wire communication facility to assist in placing bets on "any sporting event or contest." But the wire law doesn't cover other types of casino betting, a federal appeals court in New Orleans has ruled, leaving some doubt whether prosecutors can shut down Internet poker and other casino games.

Mass prosecutions doubtful
Other countries allow it, so online companies have set up operations outside the U.S. but with easy access to U.S. players and their computers. Of course, with or without a new law from Congress, the Justice Department interprets all online gambling to be illegal.
Poker advocates suggest the department's enforcement practices don't back up that assessment. Indictments dating to 1998 have focused on operators of online sports books, not sites that offer only poker.
Not only are there hurdles in arresting the operators of such sites in Costa Rica, Aruba, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar, but many argue poker tournaments online technically are not gambling.
And prosecuting a business for promoting a dot-net site that does not have direct Web links to its dot-com cousin makes for difficult legal work in court, he said. "That's a pretty good ruse, as they say," he said. "This is an area with lots of line-drawing that's uncomfortable."
People who make a living playing online poker have joined a group called the Poker Players Alliance to lobby Congress to stop the Internet gambling bill from passing the Senate.
Since the House passed the bill July 11, alliance membership more than doubled to 75,000. Alliance president Michael Bolcerek warned the bill would "drive the business of poker underground."
For now, it remains well in the open.
Jon Friedberg, a 31-year-old business owner who lives in Las Vegas, makes $150,000 a year playing poker, mostly on PokerStars.com. Linux poker players can also enjoy Party Poker as the Java.

Currently, only play money games are accessible on the beta software. Party Poker seems to be working on minor quirks and problems with the beta before going live with real money games.

Players may also notice that the Mac compatible beta is not always linked to the homepage of PartyPoker.com .

Features not yet found on Party Poker’s beta are table filters, buddy listings, histories of hands, poker training, multi-table resizing, private tables, and table searching capabilities. Party Poker may add these once the Java software officially goes out of beta testing.

The owner of CompatiblePoker.com says more big poker sites on the Mac are on their way. As of late, two major poker rooms have contacted them about what Mac users want in the Mac compatible software. The names of these sites are being kept confidential until the release dates.

Party poker for Mac will prove to be a large step in furthering Mac poker player options when stepping into the virtual world of internet poker. Political battles may squash Mac users from playing at Party Poker for much longer in the USA but for now they are taking advantage of Party Poker on a Mac.

Two New Players Win Seats to Play in the 2006 World Series of Poker

SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 05, 2006 -- TeenPatti.com's month-long FreeRoll Tournaments for June concluded on June 30th when the hot, young website crowned two more winners, awarding them seats to play in the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP). FreeRoll Tournaments were sponsored by Taj Systems, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: TJSS), the software development company credited with designing the Internet version of the popular Indian card game Teen Patti.
The first winner of June, with screen name DroppnDeuces, won TeenPatti.com's month-long Points Tourney. As a result of his great play, DroppnDeuces will be awarded a seat to play in Event #37 of the 2006 WSOP held at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on July 25th. Very much like last month's winner Ziggy Holmes, DroppnDeuces consistently placed high in a series of daily tournaments in which the top 10 players were awarded points based upon finishing position.

A player by the name of Versoe took home the most valuable prize of TeenPatti.com's June FreeRoll Tournament, a $10,000 seat to play in the Main Event of the WSOP. The closing hands of that final tournament produced the most excitement as Versoe came from behind against two players who each had almost four times as many chips as him. He single handedly took down both competitors to capture the top prize and join the TeenPatti Team.

This year's Main Event of the WSOP kicks off on July 28th and is expected to host the largest field of players ever, with a prize pool in excess of $60 million. Last year's WSOP Main Event included a total purse over $50 million with the first place finisher, Joseph Hachem of Australia, taking home $7.5 million. Monitor all the action of the 2006 WSOP, and track the performance of the TeenPatti Team on the TeenPatti.com website.

TeenPatti.com was created for a whole new crowd of Three-Card Poker lovers as well as the millions of Indians who have been playing this game for generations. Properly translated, Teen Patti means "three-card," and is an eastern version of Poker. TeenPatti.com was launched this year to cater to the growing online gaming community who enjoy both western Poker and eastern TeenPatti. Visit TeenPatti.com, download the software, and begin playing today.

Worst hands are the best in Triple Draw

Triple Draw poker is one of the newest forms of poker to really gain popularity, especially among high-limit players. It's different than other forms of poker, but in some ways it's much easier to understand and play.

There are two variations of Triple Draw that are played today: A-5 Triple Draw and 2-7 Triple Draw. In A-5 Triple Draw, the best hand is A-2-3-4-5; in 2-7 Triple Draw, the best hand is 2-3-4-5-7.

What else makes the games different?

In A-5 Triple Draw, an ace plays as a low card, and straights and flushes don't count against you. In 2-7, you're looking to make what would be the worst hand in traditional poker.

To play Triple Draw, you don't even need to know the rank of poker hands. Full houses are irrelevant as it's all about the numbered value on the card. A jack-low beats a queen-low, and a pair of threes beats a pair of fives.

The game is set up much like a Texas Hold'em match, with a button, a small blind and a big blind. Because there are so many cards in play, the maximum number of players is usually limited to six or seven. Each player is dealt a five-card hand and then has the option to draw as many cards as desired, up to three times.

There is a betting round before players draw cards. In a $200-$400 Triple Draw game, with blinds of $100-$200, the first raise would be to $400. After the betting round, remaining players have the opportunity to draw a card(s).

Then, there is another betting round in $200 increments. After this, there's a second draw, followed by another round of betting; this time the bets double to $400. Finally, there's the last chance to draw cards, followed by the closing betting round.

The pot sizes in Triple Draw tend to be larger than in other games. The game creates a lot of excitement and might be a fun addition to your weekly home game. Here are a few tips:

A-5 Triple Draw
• Only draw to a 6 or better — It's much easier to make a hand in A-5 Triple Draw because there are fewer obstacles than in 2-7. So, it's important to draw to premium hands only. An 8-low will rarely win, and a 7-low is marginal.
• Draw from the bottom up — You always want to draw from the bottom up; you'd rather have A-2-3 than 3-4-5. Hands often come up where both players tie with a 6-low or a 7-low. When that happens, the tie is broken by the next highest card. For example, 7-5-4-2-A beats 7-6-3-2-A.

2-7 Triple Draw
• Always start with a 2 in your hand — A deuce in this game is twice as powerful as any other card. In fact, all of the top eight hands contain a 2: 2-3-4-5-7; 2-3-4-6-7; 2-3-5-6-7; 2-4-5-6-7; 2-3-4-5-8; 2-3-4-6-8; 2-3-5-6-8; 2-4-5-6-8.
• Draw two or fewer cards — If you have a hand like 2-3-4-K-J, you'd actually have a pretty strong starting hand, and would draw two cards to the 2-3-4. As a rule, you want to start with at least three good hole cards in Triple Draw.
• Don't draw to straights unless you have a deuce — Starting hands like 4-5-6 are not playable. The problem with these hands is that they are too likely to land you a losing straight.
The only straight hands you should play are 2-3-4, 2-3-5, 2-3-6, 2-4-6, and 2-5-6. Again, each of these hands contains a deuce. • Don't draw to a 9-low — Since there are three draws, chances are that someone will eventually make a powerful hand. Drawing to a rough hand like 9-low is simply asking for trouble. Instead, draw for a 7-low or a smooth 8.

Please visit >visit chron news for information.

Johnny Chan Profile

Let us take another poker player today. In players mind, overly forceful or exaggerated betting moves will make his hand appear strong.

The key to interpreting your opponent’s hand by the manner he bets is not so hard. If the move is too dynamic, you should suspect weakness. If it’s quiet and smooth suspect strength.

When a player couples his wager with the words, “I’ bet,” or something similar in an optimistic tone, there’s a good chance he is weak or bluffing. If he says nothing his bet is a negative tone, figure him for a strong hand.

In a sense, the whole science of interpreting betting moves run contrary to what you might at first expect. You’ve already learned that players who are bluffing or weak often try to blend it with tablecloth after betting. Then shouldn’t you expect a player who’s bluffing to bet in a very sedate manner so as not to call attention to himself.

No. The reason is that bluffers try to disappear only after their bet. At that times they’re not required to do anything but sit and wait their fate. While waiting, they try do nothing that might trigger your call. But while betting, they don’t have luxury of doing nothing. No matter what they might desire, they know theey’re sure to call attention to themselves while placing the bet. Hat’s why they revert to trying to disguise their hand and strong when weak.

Betting with extra emphasis is an attempt to appear strong. It means weak. Betting casually is an attempt to appear weak. It mean strong. A casual bet is frequently accompanied by other overt signs of pretended weakness: shrugging, sighing and negative tones of voice.

Some times you must be cautious.
